The brand took its name as a tribute to a beautiful city, la Santisima Trinidad, the first city established in Cuba during the 16th century on the southern part of the island. The city today is classified by Unesco. The first Trinidad appeared in 1969 but, alike Cohibas, were reserved as gifts for foreign diplomats and dignitaries. It is only in 1969 that the Fundadores were made available to the public. In 2004 the brand family was extended with the addition of 3 new cigars: the Reyes, Coloniales and Robusto Extra.
As far as taste is concerned, Trinidad are of middle strength.
