Montecristo is without any doubt the most famous Habanos brand and the most popular. Many aficionados actually refer to the Montecristo cigars to assess other Cuban brands and cigars. The brand name originates from the famous novel of Alexandre Dumas "The Earl of Montecristo" which enjoyed passion amongst torcedores. The brand was registered in 1935 by Menéndez y Garcia associates. The vitolas were initially produced at the H. Upmann factory which belonged to the same group. The modules 1 to 5 exist since 1935. Joyitas and Especial vitolas were added to the range in 1969. In 1971 the exceptional piece Montecristo A was added to the portfolio.
